Ok, so if he wasn't calling a day late, then there is likely still a problem. Russell, does the ALIX at Freemont have enough storage/power to run smokeping or something similar, that would be the ideal location to test from as it's at the edge of the internet connection as well as inwards to the commons building. We can easily detect if there is still periodic packet loss, what direction it's occurring in.
