They sure need the help. Humaninet.org is a spinoff of Northwest Medical Teams that coordinates emergency communications for other NGOs during disasters. They mostly use satphones, and do a lot of coordination of the US end of the link (so the people on site can focus on the mission, not busy signals) but they also do wifi. Right now, they are very busy, but there is a lot of logistical support that can be done from Portland - locating spare parts and arranging to get them delivered, etc. Right now, the main problem is logistics - getting vital supplies delivered in spite of destroyed infrastructure. I would think long and hard about going there myself and displacing a few hundred pounds of medical supplies. That said, there will be plenty of opportunities to help at this end now, and at the other end when there is more space on planes and power for the user devices we want to provide communications for.
