Whew! And people think I'm controversial, just because I'm outspoken and feel this access tech industry has a lot of holes in it, and because I voice concerns of many who remain silent to the world outside while grumbling among themselves as to how they feel ripped off by assistive tech so often. Part of the problem is lack of decent training and documentation, or understanding by the very blind people who should know better.
Thank goodness there are a few on this list who really do look out for others and help when and where needed!

my future changes to our constitution. Whether many of you know it or not,
you people need individuals like me to show you the way. Good luck in your

Neil,

I'm sorry but I had to contact you off list. You have epitomized the meaning
of stupid messages. Soul searching over "read the manual." That's it, I'm
getting off the idiot boat and leaving the list. I'm in no way going to
willingly be a part of such a pool of fools. Thank you for not having the
mental capacity to make sense. How relevant, just yesterday I was conveying
to a colleague just how blind people are born followers and sheep. Good
riddance to all of you I'm getting the flock out of here.

PS: Man I can't believe just how stupid your message was.

I'm not sure which I like less: the condescension or the introduction of religious references into this board. Hmmmm.

"J Garcia," I couldn't disagree with your post more. _Waste_ a bit of time
helping those who need help . . . or waste even _less_ time by not
responding at all. If you really think "Read the manual" helped anybody or
anything, you have some soul-searching and reflection to do.

Bravo, Carol. Well said!

Take care, everybody. Back to the shadows....

Neil

Hi there,

My name isn't Jamie, and I already have a reputation (probably) for
speaking out on this list, so I'll do it once more and maybe the
moderator will choose to throw me off! <SMILE>

Whilst I appreciate where you're coming from with regard to people
reading manuals for themselves, Jamie has been very kind in giving a
straightforward answer to what is not necessarily too straightforward
from the manual. (We all probably acknowledged the manual was not
written as well as we would have liked it to be.) There are many good
folk around like Jamie who help on lists. The kinds of people they
help are sometimes those who just come to grab what they can and go,
and there are others who never help anyone else, that is true!

However, there is another group which includes those who find it very
difficult to absorb manuals and whose learning ability, perhaps, is
below most on the group, but still they want to get the best out of
their equipment. Don't they deserve help? Then there's poor little
me! I would have been typical in years gone by of those who were well
ahead in access technology issues and needed little help, but some
occasionally. There were days though when I'd been hard at work and
just needed some information and was either too tired or unable to
find what I needed at the time. I was always thankful for the help
given on such occasions. Now I, like others, have health problems
which mean that I have to take lots of medication which dulls my
ability to concentrate and sometimes I'm glad I don't have to remember
too much detail of what's gone on in various conversations during the
day because I probably couldn't recall it accurately enough. Now,
even if I don't deserve the help after this message, perhaps others
with similar problems do warrant consideration. Remember, you don't
know everyone's circumstances, just as we don't know yours - so
lighten up, give everyone a chance by helping where and when you can
and we may all get there!

Finally, if the list doesn't exist to meet the needs of the one who
asks the beginners' questions as well as those who talk about the
advanced stuff that some beginners don't have a clue about, then maybe
some of us need to get off the list and get some other kind of "life"!

Jaimie,

While I appreciate your gentle words, by answering simple questions
you are conditioning people to repeat their actions in the future and
as a result they will post more and more questions to easily resolved
issues. This means they will continue to do the same thing in the
future and people like you will take an hour of their lives to answer
someone's question who was too lazy to take 10 minutes to look it up
themselves. Whether you are aware of it or not they benefit and you
lose. If this person actually made an attempt to look up a solution
they not only would learn the process themselves making it faster the
next time, but they will also learn many other things in their search
for an answer. I've seen many people like this send the same question
to up to 10 different lists because they know the more people they
contact the higher the likelihood of the response. Like my learning
theory professor tells his classes: "I will not reinforce laziness." I
don't think many of the knowledgeable people on this list should
support this behavior either.

J.

Whilst I'm sure that this approach would certainly be fruitful, it
is
hardly
the kind of helpful advice that this list is about. I would suggest
that
if
you haven't got a more constructive suggestion, it's better not to
say

anything.

Yusuf, essentially the two operations are much the same. As you
have
marked
each article to start with a heading, You are wanting to use the
"Cut Section" feature followed by the "Paste section". A section is
the chunk
of
audio between one heading and the next heading. It is very much
like word processing in that you chop the audio from one place with
the first action and then you go to where you want the section to be
placed and carry out a paste operation.

Step by step the operation is as follows:

1. Press the 5 key to go into the menu system
2. Press Enter or the 8 key to go into the Edit menu
3. Press the 4 or 6 key until you are on "Cut Section" and press
Enter to select it. 4. You will now be asked to select the starting
section and end section
to
cut. Do this using the 4 or 6 keys and press Enter after you have
specified
each
5. When asked to do so, press Enter to confirm the cut operation.

Once you have cut the correct sections from your recording, you need
to do the paste operation. Do this as follows:

1. Use your 4 or 6 keys to select the position where you want to
insert your section or sections that you have just cut. 2. Press
the 5 key to enter the menu 3. Press Enter to select the Edit menu
4. Press 4 or 6 keys to select the "Paste Section" operation and
press
Enter to select this operation.
5. Use 4 or 6 keys to confirm that you are in the correct position
where
you want to paste the sections. The last spoken section will end up
following the pasted sections when the operation is complete. 6.
Press Enter when you are sure that you are at the correct
location.
7. When asked to, press Enter to confirm the operation.

This should mean that your sections are re-ordered in the correct
positions.
Once you have completed the process, you would be wise to double
check
that
things are where they should be. Remember you can always use the
"Undo Previous Editing" command if you think you have messed it up.

I think that doing this from a CD to a card is the same method but I
don't have a card so can't be absolutely sure. Perhaps someone out
there can confirm or deny this.

Hope this helps.

Jamie

Hi all, I am using the latest updated version of the PTR1. Over
the last couple of months I have been recording various articles
from the Times newspaper on to a 1 GB PCMCIA card. Each new
article has a

heading. Last week I accidentally recorded an article from the
13th of February 1918 before the article from the 12th. I want to
cut the

last article (the
one
from the 12th) and paste it before the article from the 13th.

How do I do this?

Secondly I have some articles on CD that I want to copy on to the
card before the first article on the card.

How is this done?

Cheers
