Frank,

You're right that you do have to go into a dialogue box to start with but you
normally can subsequently just use the F3 key to repeat the previous find. I'm
pretty sure that this applies to both Notepad and Wordpad and many other
programmes also.

Cheers,

Jamie

Of course both notepad and wordpad are not the best way to read a text
file of reference material in windows because of their dialog based
search. I used to die of frustration when I used notepad to read .txt
files. Open the dialog close the dialog open the dialog close the
dialog. If you import the text file into an Outlook message you can use
the only single key non dialog based search left in ms windows the f4
key. Which is why I read everything in outlook.

Hi,

The issue with Notepad actually was dealt with in NT 4.0, and maybe even
before that. It was 16-bit Windows versions that had this issue (i.e,
Win 3.x, 95, 98 and possibly ME).

Andrew.

Hi John:

Just to set the record straight on file size limitations, it was Notepad
that had a file size limitation in Windows versions before Xp. Wordpad
has never had a similar file size limitation. Fortunately, Microsoft
remedied this situation in Windows XP.

Cheers,

Steve
