FWIW, the Oasis page

http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/tc_home.php?wg_abbrev=xdi

has this on it:

"The XDI TC has developed a new RDF based model... "

which suggests that it now is not being proposed as an alternative to RDF,
anyway.
