I strongly agree with the several endorsements to make use of the
BioPortal for this requirement.
In working directly with NCBO on the ontology component of what we're
doing, we will also be much more likely be aware of - and make use of
- the other relevant ontologies being aggregated with the BioPortal.
This is not to negate the importance of the technical and licensing
issues that have been brought up. Clearly, Alan, Helen, & others
have already provided very important feedback on these issues which
goes even further to endorse the value of our working with NCBO in
this context.
Cheers,
Bill

Mark,
I do think this is the right way to share and interlink ontologies.
We would certainly support the cross-linking from our activity
sites, as well as using them directly.
Looking at the interface, it is not clear to me ho best to
reference an element of the ontologies there-- is there a URI
mechanism that can be used directly by outside researchers? How
does this relate to the DOID # (i.e., namespaces)?

Eric

Helen,
We'd be delighted to have you consider hosting these files on the
BioPortal ontology repository that we are creating as part of the
National Center for Biomedical Ontology (see http://
www.bioontology.org/ncbo/faces/index.xhtml). We soon will be
releasing BioPortal to the community, and this repository was
created for just the purpose that you have in mind.
Anyone can give the pre-release version a spin; we are extremely
eager for feedback.

Mark

Welcome!
The task forces at HCLS are working on various use cases,
converting datasets, generating RDF, OWL, N3 files. Currently,
some of these files are stored at ESW wiki site, some are at
personal/company sites.
The request for a permanent repository location to host such
files generated at HCLS group has been discussed before. The
BioRDF, BioOnt and ACPP group would like to post this request again.
Changing URIs of some of the files could be expensive and tedious
in a later stage.
Thanks for your help.

change in staff contact...
Dear all,
First of all, a very happy new year to all of you!
If you remember, I came in as staff contact for the HCLS IG as a
'temporary' measure, until this is sorted out. I am pleased to
inform
you that, as of January, the new staff contact for this IG is Eric
Prud'hommeaux <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. Let me welcome him in the name of
the group!
I will stay on the group as an 'alternate' staff contact, so you
will
not get rid of me that easily:-). But the real guy is now Eric.
As a first explicit issue: it seems that some of the zakim
reservations
were not done for 2007, so the biordf group had problems today.
Please,
send all the zakim reservations you manage to Eric, so that he
can check
with the guardians of zakim the status. All bridge reservations
should
be extended until the end of this year, I guess.
Ivan
