Ooops - I wrote this e-mail early yesterday before I realized Eric N
is here as well!
I would say both Eric N, Eric M, John, and Elizabeth have been doing
a wonderful job helping to inform the discussions here regarding the
value and appropriateness of semantic web technologies and best
practices as they relate to the issues of scientific discourse,
publishing and data sharing being discussed at this meeting.
Cheers,
Bill

Subject: mention of neuro-oriented SemWeb efforts at the PubMed
Plus mtg going on today & tomorrow
Hi All,
Eric Miller, John Wilbanks, Elizabeth Wu, myself, and approximately
75 other experts in neuroinformatics and the neuroscience
publishing community are at the Pub Med Plus meeting sponsored by
the Society for Neuroscience, NIH Blueprint project, and the
NeuroCommons/SC.
Floyd Bloom (venerable neuroscientist/neuroinformaticist and former
managing editor of 'Science') just gave the plenary talk on the
evolution of scientific publishing from the mid-17th century up to
today, where he noted current worthy efforts in "new" forms of
publishing and "promising starts". Amongst those "new" efforts Dr.
Bloom cited were the SWAN project, work by the Yale SenseLab group,
the BIRNLex ontology, and the BMC Bioinformatics HCLS IG article
Kei shepherded into publication last December. Dr. Bloom is a
senior neuroscientist who's been intimately involved with the
publication of scientific information throughout the last 30 years
but has had no direct involvement either with the HCLS IG or any of
the other cited groups, nor has he had any direct experience using
Semantic Web technologies. I believe this makes his recognition
these efforts all the more compelling.
Kudos to all.
Cheers,
Bill
