CLINICAL INFORMATICS SCIENTIST

Philips Research, Briarcliff Manor, NY

* Your Responsibilities:

We are seeking an exceptional, self-motivated individual to participate in the 
expansion of the Clinical Decision Support Systems program for diagnosis and 
treatment selection, operations and quality management, and technical platform 
development. The candidate will participate in the research around the imaging 
and radiology informatics competency, focusing on research and implementation 
of first-of-kind algorithms and prototypes for improving clinical workflow and 
patient outcomes. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in information 
retrieval and extraction involving both structured and unstructured data, and 
have broad exposure to a range of real-world clinical situations. This position 
will support the collaborative relationships with universities, scientific 
institutions, academic organizations and governmental resources to support the 
long range technical objectives within the global research program.

* Your Profile:

We require a PhD in biomedical informatics, biomedical engineering or 
equivalent, and the following:

- Research experience in the design, development, and evaluation of clinical 
decision support applications for biomedicine
- Experience in employing information retrieval and extraction, natural 
language processing, machine learning, and knowledge management methods within 
clinical systems
- Expertise in the use of controlled clinical terminologies and ontologies 
(UMLS, SNOMED, ICD, etc)
- Understanding of clinical workflow and systems, with an emphasis on radiology 
or interventional procedures, developed through experience in working with 
caregivers in clinical environments
- Software engineering experience in a clinically oriented research 
environment, including programming experience with Java, Matlab, C/C++/C# 
and/or the .Net framework

In addition, the following skills and experience would be a plus:

- Experience with semantic technologies, such as OWL, RDF, SPARQL, 
reasoners/classifiers
- Knowledge of the principles of medical image acquisition and processing
- Experience in health care data and communication standards (HL7; DICOM)
- Understanding of the business and economic considerations associated with 
healthcare innovation.
