Hi i18n Core,
The Web Apps is seeking a review and comments on the i18n portion of the
Widgets Packaging and Configuration Test Suite.
The descriptions and pass conditions for the tests can be found at the
following URL:
[1] http://dev.w3.org/2006/waf/widgets/test-suite/#user-agent
Please note that the i18n tests are intermixed with all the other tests
(as they are an integral part of the test suite); so, to find them,
click on "Show all tests" and then search for "i18n" using your
browser's search utility.
Alternatively, we have split the tests up into the following directories
(raw test files):
http://dev.w3.org/2006/waf/widgets/test-suite/test-cases/i18n-ltr/
http://dev.w3.org/2006/waf/widgets/test-suite/test-cases/i18n-rtl/
http://dev.w3.org/2006/waf/widgets/test-suite/test-cases/i18n-lro/
http://dev.w3.org/2006/waf/widgets/test-suite/test-cases/i18n-rlo/
The tests only focus on the "config.xml" files (i.e., HTML files are
only there because they are required for a valid widget). As mentioned
above, the pass conditions are not included in the tests themselves
(pass conditions are described in the Test Suite Overview [1]); but it
should be self evident what is needed to pass each tests by looking at
the config.xml files.
As there are over 170 i18n tests, we are not expecting a detailed review
from the i18n WG (the tests were mostly automatically generated, hence
follow a predictable pattern which can be easily updated if you find
mistakes). If you could please just take a look and make sure some of
them are ok, that would be great - and would give us confidence to move
this spec forward along the Rec track. We would also be happy to discuss
the structure/format of the tests during a teleconf, if that suits the
i18n WG better.
Currently, no shipping user agent that we know of passes these tests
(though Opera has implemented the i18n parts of the spec in an internal
build and passes all tests - we are very proud about that! :) ).
I want to again take the opportunity to thank the i18n Core WG for all
the help throughout the last 3 years with Widgets. We really appreciate
all your time, help, and patience. Personally, I can wait to see
developers making use of these features.
Kind regards,
Marcos
