I will just resurrect this request. An option to select what happens with user specified item IDs when they conflict. The same value could be used to specify that a publisher specified ID must be present on this node.
My old idea got some comments so I will revise it here. open pubsub#id_conflict_resolution, single-list, values, overwrite, error. default empty, if set to either value the pubsub component will error if no item id is specified, if set to empty, current rules apply, that if it is set it is used and if it is already used it will overwrite.
