#822: Closing the last stream on an ALSA sink causes distortion --------------------+------------------------------------------------------- Reporter: adi | Owner: lennart Type: defect | Status: new Milestone: | Component: daemon Keywords: | --------------------+------------------------------------------------------- Hi.
I hope this is not a dup: when closing the last stream on an ALSA sink, PA causes some distortion (or however you like to call it). This is probably related to volumes, the lower the last resulting playback volume was (flat volumes), the louder the crackling. It somehow resets everything, in addition to the "closing sound", there was audible noise (mostly in the HF area, let's say above 4kHz). As soon as I loaded the sink again (that is, start a playback), the noise was gone. Though these two issues might be related to each other, I mostly report the distortion upon last client exit here. I've attached you a wav file that illustrates the problem. Be careful when playing back, don't crank up the volume. It's pretty soft in the beginning, I then terminate the last client. This is when the loud distortion kicks in. (you might want to open it in a wave file editor to inspect it, first) I cannot reproduce the behaviour when playing to a JACK sink, probably because the ALSA target device keeps streaming and remains at the same volume.
