Their web page appears to render in Western (ISO-8859-1) encoding. However, it renders okay if I force the encoding to be Western (ISO-8859-15). In any case, it is not UTF-8. In my case, in Firefox 3.0.3, the web page does not render automatically anymore even though I have Satluj font installed. Odd thing is, the web page used to render okay till some months ago. Now I have to force the encoding to ISO-8859-15. > Satluj is not a Unicode font, therefore by choosing default > encoding(which most probably should be Unicode), you are not able to > read Punjabi. I am quite disappointed in Ajit's web page and also some web pages in Canadian Punjabi newspapers. I have a strong hunch that they do not have competent IT personal managing their web page. Probably trying to save money by using an "IT handyman" for the job. > Satluj.com uses Saab (thats what I think), therefore you are able to see > it in Punjabi. In fact, all they (Ajit and other newspapers) have to do is (they are most probably using Windows) just activate complex language text support and type their document in Ravi font and make sure their HTML header specifies the web page to be utf8. Couldn't be easier. If they just try this once they whould soon realize how systematic it all becomes and that their online readership increases. Not to mention the fact that they won't be looked upon as unfamiliar with modern standards web technology.
