Issue #1604 has been updated by xayk.
Unfortunately the wikipedia link offers very little information (language, license, release dates and platform support). It would be very useful to have a page that describes why would someone choose Puppet over Quattor (in my case). Getting to know Puppet and it's competitors to such details as to make the right choice is not a trivial task but the developers working on Puppet can surely do this allot easier. As an example: Puppet vs. Quattor: Puppet scales down better is easier to setup. Quattor scales up better after 10000 machines (I have no idea if this is true :) Puppet vs. cfengine: Puppet is the next generation cfengine ... it handles this and that better (and how) and it makes "whatever" possible (something cfengine couldn't do at all) Puppet vs. Radmind: Radmind is not open source and has problems managing ... whatever... A list such of this would make Puppet more trustworthy because it shows that the developers know about the weaknesses of Puppet and are probably working towards fixing the problems. It also shows the interest of the developers in helping the users make the best choice even if that might not be Puppet. ---------------------------------------- Feature #1604: Comparison http://projects.reductivelabs.com/issues/show/1604 Author: xayk Status: Needs more information Priority: Normal Assigned to: Category: documentation Target version: Complexity: Easy Affected version: 0.24.4 Keywords: I was looking for a cfengine replacement and I stumbled upon Puppet ... it sound pretty nice but it would be usefull to have some kind of comparison to the current competitors. My partner started using Quattor and if we were to switch to Puppet it would be nice to see what does Puppet better than Quattor (or the other current competitors), what is Quattor better at ... Many might have a hard time deciding and in the end there is the risk of choosing the wrong software for that job. Such a comparison chart would certainly make anyone trust Puppet more. ---------------------------------------- You have received this notification because you have either subscribed to it, or are involved in it.
