Issue #2298 has been updated by Greg Boug.

Only evidence I have of tagmail going nuts is the emails in my inbox, no
logging appears under normal running conditions. I haven't been able to get it
to happen again while running in debug mode yet...

I've removed tagmail from the config and now have a script that goes through
and summarises the reports, which is more useful anyway - I don't want 100+
emails when I change a single file anyway...

Can close this if you like, as I am not going to use tagmail now...

Bug #2298: Upon loss of contact to master - tagmail / reporting goes nuts...
http://projects.reductivelabs.com/issues/2298

Author: Greg Boug
Status: Needs more information
Priority: Normal
Assigned to:
Category: reports
Target version:
Complexity: Unknown
Affected version: 0.24.8
Keywords:

Had a network issue which caused a lack of communication to the Puppet Master.
I'm using:

   reports = tagmail,store

Basically what appears to be happening is that since tagmail doesn't think it
can send an email, it
thinks that it has failed - so the reporting function is reattempted. The
issues with that are:

 1. It actually sends the email - Well, its queued in Sendmail...
 2. It doesn't stop - even when connectivity is restored. It appears to be
stuck in an infinte loop until someone kills the daemon...
 3. It appears to re-run all reporting - I am getting multiple YAML files in
the reports folder...

I've disabled tagmail for now so that it can hopefully run once with just
store...

The result is about a thousand emails, per node, every 5-10 minutes.

Can a limit be put in place on the number of reporting retries?
