Issue #1968 has been updated by Paul Nasrat.

Status changed from Needs more information to Closed

ia64 is used elsewhere to refer to Itanium not intel. Indeed even Gentoo seems
to use this nomeclature:

http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/catalyst/

ia64 Intel's Itanium 64-bit platform (Itanium Classic and Itanium 2)

I assume you mean determining EM64T and AMD64.

The processor# fact should be usable here to distinguish on linux:

processor0 => Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU    Q9550  @ 2.83GHz
processor1 => Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU    Q9550  @ 2.83GHz
processor2 => Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU    Q9550  @ 2.83GHz
processor3 => Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU    Q9550  @ 2.83GHz

This is useful is you have different configurations based on the hardware.

One example of this is there are different profiles on Gentoo for ia64 and
amd64 systems.
