I'd say performance could definitely be an issue. I've seen Webrick run up to approximately 100 nodes depending on how complex the configuration is but issues start to emerge generally around 50 nodes. It seems to be new with our recent upgrade from 0.24.8 to 0.25.5 - or atleast increased greatly.
