Sorry, to clarify: I get the value of the ip by following the debug suggestion in http://projects.reductivelabs.com/issues/2942#note-10 Client system currently only has console access (because Puppet is supposed to configure SSH login ;-), so I can't quickly give extensive output without retyping. The underlying cause isn't the issue, the problem is that the error message gives me almost nothing to go on. After inserting extra debug in the code, I see that $ip is empty, but where does it get this value from? If a file, which one and what line? If from system config, how is it derived? I've run the client and server in debug/trace mode, and I'm still not seeing where this problem originates. The Puppet master system has been cloned from an existing server and renamed/re-addressed. A client system that was also cloned with it works fine. This issue only affects two new clients, so I assume some old config in the server hasn't been cleared out.
