On an OSX host:
$ facter operatingsystem
Darwin
$ facter_operatingsystem=Not_Darwin facter operatingsystem
Not_Darwin
But on a linux/solaris host:
$ facter operatingsystem
CentOS
$ facter_operatingsystem=Not_CentOS facter operatingsystem
CentOS
