If environmentpath is specified in a section other than main, legacy environment settings in another section are technically still valid. And we can't check the intended run_mode yet, because that hasn't been set yet when we parse the settings. Given a puppet.conf: {code} [main] environmentpath=$confdir/environments [anenv] modulepath=/some/modules manifests=/some/manifests {code} And a directory environment $confdir/environments/anenv A `puppet config print modulepath manifest --environment anenv` will print the legacy settings rather than the directory settings.
