In our deep merging code, for example, we check that there is a key and also that the value is not false (or some other value, if false is a valid value that we need to use). But, simplifying that to relying again on has_key would be even better. So, there's kind of a work-around, but it would be a very nice feature to add to deep merging capabilities.
