I'm a fan of the RAL idea also, lak was telling me about it last time I was in PDX. I'm not sure if you've spoken to him yet about it. Anyhow ... the RAL storage may assist with this problem, but its not mandatory. Maybe we need another ticket? The story around that is 'unmanaged resources' like you say in your demo ... and thats really a good piece of work on its own. But we don't have to do both to achieve this tickets goal for now, both pieces of work could probably be done incrementally.
