One problem with using the IP alone as a namevar is that this is a valid hostfile: 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 localhost4 Unfortunately, I think the solution to this issue is ultimately going to have to be a major, non-backwards-compatible reworking of the host type.
