This is a resend of the July 17th trivial fix and the fix for #2386.
For the #2386 fix, my concerns still apply: there is a change in behaviour for Passenger 2.2.3 and newer (on which we currently don't work anyway), for 2.2.2 there should be no change (unit tests say so). For the behaviour change (we now use ENV to determine our SSL stuff), there are currently no tests, and manual testing also has not been done, as this would need to be done against Passenger HEAD (as 2.2.3 and 2.2.4 are broken for our needs).
