I was wondering if there was discussion on this before.  I did search for 
it... When I approached this topic at PuppetConf, I received either 
confused or crestfallen looks... 

I have worked in heterogeneous environments that used AD's LDAP/Kerb for 
Linux and Unix, and so the uids/gids as well as sids were in LDAP.  Having 
the uid return the sid, breaks using AD's LDAP in such environments.  I 
would rather just pull an attribute titled sid, and any account 
modification that uses sid will be OS dependent.  Right now, any code that 
uses or manages uid, will not be able to manage user resources across both 
platforms where ActiveDirectory is used.
