Hi all,

I've been having problems on and off with connecting to our Puppet master from
EC2. We have the Puppet master outside of the Amazon network, in Switzerland.
So it's doing a connection Ireland<->Switzerland. This of course leads to slow
puppet runs under the best conditions - but we can live with that for now. But
very often it wouldn't even start downloading the catalog.

I was able to fix that problem by increasing the timeout in IO.select:
http://github.com/pneff/puppet/commit/9b08d74bcdf4fd29b43129484166299330e7fc48

But I'm not sure at all if this is a good solution or if we should be doing
something else. In case this is a good solution I guess it should be refactored
to using a configuration value.

I pasted the normal output of a puppet run without the patch here:
http://gist.github.com/337504

Looking forward to your feedback.

Thanks
Patrice
