something really weird - i made a fresh key to test repeatability
because in comment #3 i use apt-get install --install-recommends jockey-
gtk for i don't know what reason, and had messed with other things too -
and after installing jockey-gtk it reported no drivers. bizarrely,
after a reboot, jockey-gtk worked fine.. so something weird is going
on with jockey-gtk. i'll make a test.iso locally with it included and
see how that behaves, it's quite small (small enough i hope..) (about
400kB of archives including deps to dl/install).

Bug description:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/jockey-gtk

Jockey is a useful tool for locating hardware drivers not native to the kernel.
It is part of the Ubuntu live cd (under the menu entry 'Hardware Drivers.' and
detects any hardware drivers not installed automatically. It accesses
proprietary drivers, but I am unsure if it locates kernel drivers as well.

It is very useful, however, for locating and installing drivers for certain
hardware, such as nvidia and broadcom network cards, without having to compile
them manually.
