You're probably only missing the firmware, but you need to jump through
some hoops to extract it from the manufacturer's blobs:

Check the output of "dmesg" when you try to run iwconfig and ifconfig on
your wireless network card, it should offer useful information about
which firmware you need (installing the debian package "b43-fwcutter"
might work too, if not "dmesg" will spit out very clear instructions
about what you need to do to get the correct version of the firmware).
