Please can you elaborate a bit on why we need gvrp?

Oh you don't need to configure VLANs on your switch for VMs.

Good example:
- you have a seperated internal lan
- you want to create a seperate vlan for two or more VMs

Just add a tagged interface with a free vlan id and you're done. No switch configuration needed. GVRP announces this vlan to the switch.
