I've also seen code in the driver to flip the img for
certain cams. Perhaps your cam should be added.

As for embedded systems:
My cam is attached to an NSLU2 (arm core) and works
like a charm. I can grab pictures with vidcat and also
use motion.
Haven't gotten streamer to run (but didn't try very
hard), but I can save a video stream with
cat /dev/video0 >videofile

Unfortunately I am still missing the proper
incantation  for mplayer to play this back on my linux
box.
