You just have to kill it.

It wouldn't be that complicated to arrange for less brutal signals such
as "kill -HUP" or "kill -TERM" to signal a semaphore in the image.  The
Morphic interaction loop could then catch this and do a clean shutdown. 
But no one has bothered....
