I was wondering if there maybe was an answer to this question and I just missed it. I too am curious about how to do backups and restores
I went back in time through several previous backups and was unable to restore anything. As this was a production server, it was *very* visible by it's absence. I'm in the process of removing contents from other swikis to regular Apache servers, but it's a poor second to the features found in swiki. I'm shopping now for a suitable replacement, as we have quite some demand for the wiki features.
I think perhaps the process for backup & restore is ripe for some serious investigations.

and I am also still hoping someone can explain to me how to delete a page (all philosophy aside, people *do* make typos in links).
