Sorry, there are no config options for debugging anymore.  =)  Now you do:
PyAIMt -d
(there's also -l filename to say you want it logged to a file)
PyAIMt -h for more options.  That's as of CVS though.  (i think, I don't
believe those enhancements are in 0.4a)
