Linux (SLED10, so quite old and I am having trouble installing mercurial

2 & 3 are easily reproducible except for the unchanging watch values, 1 
is very occasional.

Yes vim in a terminal, and I briefly tried this.  I should be able to 
recreate the variable close problem and send you a log tomorrow.  For 
the less repeatable problems I will wait for your fix then enable 
logging generally.
