Found it!!! I did not know that my antivirus software was running a firewall. I can't believe this has cost me so much time. Thanks a lot Fabio, this was the only option that made sense, but I was quite sure that windows fw was off. For those who might experience the same thing: Nod32 has a quite annoying firewall, which by default does not bother to ask you about managing connections. It simply blocks some of them, silently!
