Hey Martin, One of the best ways to get help on an issue like this is to post a little test script along with the images used. Also, sometimes you can figure out stuff like this in the process of putting together a test that demonstrates the problem.

One debugging thing you could do is check on the results of the Surface.get_flags() call on the Sprite's image attribute before it draws or something Since you are using per-pixel alpha PNG's, the flags should have SRCALPHA set http://www.pygame.org/docs/ref/surface.html#Surface.get_flags
