I think it should respect standard mechanisms like the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable.
There are also ways to edit the binary to modify where it looks for libraries: we do this in order to bundle libraries like SDL into the Linux wheel packages. But I don't think this kind of trick should be necessary for what you describe.
