about placing text in 3D space, flat on the screen, like a HUD,

given that defining the placement of text is limited to x and y co-
ords only, how could i get a reference to the vertex.list (or
whatever) for the text.document in order to translate and rotate that
in a gluPerspective?

from a gluPerspective i would like to put things flat on the screen.
how to?

would i have to work back from the view matrix to find the co-ords in
the model, and transform the text as originally positioned by
pyglet..?
