"or pass user data in"
what it means is you should use something like:

   col = gtk.TreeViewcolumn(..)
   col.connect('clicked', clicke_cb, 'my_data')

   def ckecked_cb(column, my_data):
       pass

it you want to write data to a widget, you can also use set_data():

col.set_data('my_data', string_or_what_i_want)
