Joe, I'm just getting started with pylons and initially i had the same issues you describe... After experimenting i realised the pylons wraps myghty, so i just ignore the stuff about setup, installation, servelets, WSGI, CGI, etc since pylons has already done that. All the other stuff "The Myghty Environment", "Additional Features" from the myghty docs seem to work...
