Hello, I am happy to report that I got it working with Pylons 0.9.4.1 (after removing pylons temp dir as noted by Philip to fix do_run_component error).
I did have proper encoding header in the template file for 0.9.3 and unicode literals were OK but not results of gettext call. With 0.9.4 (and ugettext) it just works.
