Thanks for all the links. I will check out those attempts. I figured it would be 'built in' at some point, because i hear they do it in other frameworks.
On a semi-related note does anyone have a resource for a good way to do one of those ajax checks to see if a username is already in use as you type? It's kind of like autocomplete.
