So far, I've only been able to build a statically linked _PyLucene.so
with gcj 3.4.x. With gcj 4.x, the only combination that works is a
_PyLucene.so that is dynamically linked with libgcj.so, and then only
with a recent 4.2.0 snapshot.
I used the snapshot you recommended in your recipe (it's not the most
recent, though). I'll try today with dynamically linked build.
