Well, let's see. Rather than issue FUD from vague past experiences, shall we look at what dependencies the suggested package actually has? http://packages.debian.org/testing/libssl0.9.8 debconf, libc6, and zlib1g. I wouldn't worry about any of those having disappeared in sid. (And in fact they haven't.)
