Hi list,

Recently we have faced some gitorious stability problems, because of
that we would like
to discuss a possible migration from gitorious to github, and we would
like to listen
what do you think about that.

Some weeks ago we have created a temporary PySide repository on github
to keep our
working, while the gitorious was offline, and with that we discovery
the power of
github.

After some good experience with github and many other bad experiences
with gitorious, we would like to discuss if it is acceptable moving from
gitorious to github.

Because of that I will list the strong and weak points of each server:

GITHUB
======

GOOD:
* Faster on-line operations (clone/push/fetch)
* Much more stable
* Merge request more friendly and stable
* More flexible configurations
* Better interface

BAD:
* not open-source

GITORIOUS
=========

GOOD:
* Qt home (I think this is the main reason for PySide to stay there)
* open-source

BAD:
* Merge request fails most of the time
* Git clone mysteriously hangs-up (in our buildbot we have a script to
try 10 times
 before aborting, and even that fail some times)
* On-line operations very slow
* Very unstable server (we have experienced a lot of service
interruption in the past)
* The tools are very poor and have a lack of configurations

These are our thoughts about both tools, this does not mean PySide is moving
from gitorious. This is only a discussion about possibilities, and we would like
to hear what do you think about that.
