Zbyszek Szmek <zbys...@in.waw.pl> added the comment: Stdout can be connected to a pipe, e.g to less, which in turn might be connected to a terminal. The program can then display output properly scaled for the terminal, assuming that because stdin is connnected to a terminal, output will eventually reach the same terminal. Sometimes this is true, sometimes not.
