R. David Murray added the comment: Given the backward compatibility concerns, and the fact that brace expansion and wildcard expansion are conceptually separate operations, perhaps what we should have a is a glob.expand_braces (or some such name) function? (Note: I haven't looked at whether or not this would actually work as an API, I'm just throwing out an idea.)
