Terry J. Reedy added the comment: By 'active Python distribution', do you mean 'ActiveState Python distribution'? If so, you should talk with ActiveState. The 2.7.10 64 bit PSF installer works fine on my machine. Was Win 7, now Win 10. In any case, try "python -m idlelib" at a command line and see what error message you get.
