R. David Murray added the comment: I believe this was discussed at the time subTest was added and deemed an acceptable tradeoff for a simpler implementation. I'm not sure it is, but I'm not prepared to write code to fix it :) I'm bothered every time I see this, but I have to admit that the tracebacks are the most important feedback and you do get those.
