Martin Panter added the comment: If the assignment is completely removed, won’t this break the test when run from the source or build tree (as opposed to when installed)? Or at least make the situation worse: the AIX buildbot is already failing test_distutils, but at least it is looking for Modules/ld_so_aix locally rather than in the yet-to-be-installed location.
