Ned Deily <n...@python.org> added the comment: As of 3.6.5, 2.7.15, and the upcoming 3.7.0. the macOS installers now build with a generic 'gcc' specified, rather than the somewhat confusing 'gcc-4.2' and we also provide a new 10.9+ 64-bit-only installer variant that is built with clang. So I think we can finally close this issue. Thanks all!
